Good things to know about HPV

If a gynecological test shows HPV, it can be very scary.

Obviously, your first thought is, how is this happening now?! ...

And then fear can take over you. People hear a lot of things, and many of us don't really know how far we are with this virus.

Does it only cause genital warts?

Does it also cause cervical cancer or other cancers?

Do men spread it to women while they are completely asymptomatic?

Before such and similar questions instill fear in us, let's get to know the pathogen itself:

THEHPV viruses more than 100 typeswe know, among these also aLR (Low Risk)Types 6 and 11 cause about 90% of infections - these are virusese.g. condyloma(pubic wart) in the background.

The HPV virusHRtypes and other papilloma viruses can also cause tumors within the epithelium of the cervix, cancer of the vagina, external genitalia, anus, penis, oral cavity, pharynx and esophagus.

  • LR - Low Risk  low risk HPV types: 6, 11, 42, 43, 44/55 HPV types (causing condyloma)

  • HR - High  Risk  high risk HPV types: 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68 HPV types (causing agents of cervical cancer  and some pharyngeal laryngeal tumors)

The virusesA part of it sexual relationship onlyspreads during and remains in the basal cells of the epithelial layer throughout life.

Despite the above, however, do not immediately despair in case of HPV infection!

It can take 7-15 years from the appearance of more harmless warts to the development of a potentially malignant tumor.  Since the growth of changes appearing on the cervix and other places is relatively slow, thereforewith the annual regular gynecological cancer screening  their condition can be effectively checked and assessed. If the growths become malignant, their removal may be recommended with the help of  LEEP. This can permanently prevent the development of cancer!

What is LEEP and how is a procedure performed?
